Hokah is one of the most unique communities in southeastern Minnesota. Originally an Indian

village, it is named after their leader, Chief Wecheschatope Hokah. It is located between

Thompson Creek Bluff and the Root River and has become an ideal recreation spot.

The area is known for excellent hunting and fishing.

Take a ride down the Root River in a canoe or tube to enjoy the beautiful scenery or,

for a different change of pace, try the sand bottom swimming pool. Snowmobile trails are also

located in the area. Hokah boasts of four city parks offering shelters, a horseshoe court,

ball fields and an ice rink. Plan a picnic, wedding or graduation at Como Falls Park.

Located behind the fire station and the swimming pool, it offers a scenic walkway in which to

enjoy the beautiful Como Falls.

Hokah is part of the Historic Bluff Country's Scenic Byway, an 88 mile route on the

Minnesota Highway 16 between Dexter and La Crescent.

Hokah is also located within 10 miles of La Crosse, WI, just 30 miles from Winona

and 70 miles from Rochester, MN.

Hokah is part of La Crescent - Hokah district #300. Located at the

Hokah Learning Center is Bluff Country Learning Options,

offering alternative education to students 16 and up. St. Peter's

Catholic Grade School provides for Preschool to grades K-8.

Four churches serve the community. St. Peter's Catholic Church,

United Methodist Church,

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and Community Church of Hokah.

If organizations interest you, Hokah includes the American Legion,

American Legion Auxiliary, St. Peter's Home School Association,

Lions Club, Hokah Chiefs 4-H Club, and many church organizations.
