Hokah is an intergenerational Community with strong young families as well as an honored place for Seniors.  Each generation contributes their own strengths and shares their knowledge through gathering places and community-based educational opportunities. All ages work together to create a safe, nurturing, healthy place to live and work.

Hokah's economy includes a diverse, progressive, and innovative agricultural sector which has a strong focus on adding value to our traditional farm base. We capitalize on our renewable and sustainable energy resources. Our economy is green-friendly and offers nature-based recreational and tourism opportunities.

City of Hokah LogoHokah is one of the most unique communities in southeastern Minnesota. Originally an Indian village, it is named after their leader, Chief Wecheschatope Hokah. It is located between Thompson Creek Bluff and the Root River and has become an ideal recreation spot. The area is known for excellent hunting and fishing.

Take a ride down the Root River in a canoe or tube to enjoy the beautiful scenery or, for a different change of pace, try the sand bottom swimming pool. Snowmobile trails are also located in the area. Hokah boasts of four city parks offering shelters, a horseshoe court, ball fields and an ice rink. Plan a picnic, wedding or graduation at Como Falls Park. Located behind the fire station and the swimming pool, it offers a scenic walkway in which to enjoy the beautiful Como Falls.

Hokah is part of the Historic Bluff Country's Scenic Byway, an 88 mile route on the Minnesota Highway 16 between Dexter and La Crescent. Hokah is also located within 10 miles of La Crosse, WI, just 30 miles from Winona and 70 miles from Rochester, MN.

Hokah is part of La Crescent - Hokah district #300. Located at the Hokah Learning Center is Bluff Country Learning Options, offering alternative education to students 16 and up. St. Peter's Catholic Grade School provides for Preschool to grades K-8.
